Jason Chang

Mr. Chang brings to Pontem over 22 years of investment, engineering and operating management experience, during which he closed over $60 billion of highly structured transactions.  Previously, he co-founded Renuergy LLC, an independent upstream oil & gas operator in the southern and gulf coast areas of Texas before combining the team with Pontem in 2024.  Mr. Chang previously managed upstream, downstream and renewable energy real assets at Element Group and Bateleur Capital.  He was an investment banker at Credit Suisse and Morgan Stanley with a focus on leveraged finance structuring and execution, mostly in the energy, transportation and basic materials sectors.  Mr. Chang was also at a distressed specialist firm involved with corporate turnarounds and restructurings. 

He earned a BASc in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto and an MBA with Dean’s Honors from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.  Mr. Chang is a professional engineering license holder and played varsity lacrosse at the University of Toronto.  Based in Houston, he is married with four children and enjoys hunting and golf.
